End of the World - Spaceship Breakdown

Here's a little insight into creating the spaceship attack shot in the CollegeHumor music video parody "It's the End of the World as We Know It".

Pixar Intro Parody - Pre Viz

Here's a look at the Pixar Intro Parody in it's earlier stages. A mix of animatics, storyboards, un-rendered scenes and doodles to show how this multiple Webby Award Winning video was created.

Old Spice's online marketing campaign needed an intro.  And whadaya know? We're really good at that.

The CollegeHumor Show - Intro

When CollegeHumor landed their very own show on MTV they came straight to Gloo Studios to get the perfect animated intro.

Sobe Studios Animated Logo

This was a lot of fun to put together. We brought in a whole bunch of lizards and let them each take their turn walking across a big piece of glass.  The camera was up on our crane, shooting birds-eye view onto the lizards, and with the bluescreen beneath them it almost looked like they were swimming through frame.

The lizard plate allowed us to perfectly key out the little beast himself and replace with some nice stylstic colours on his body while still keep the natural movements of the lizard.  A heck of a lot easier than building, rigging and animated a 3D lizard (which was considered, but wouldn't have been nearly as fun!)

Zordon is a Racist!

This is without a doubt my very favourite College Humor video of all time, and I'm not just saying that because Gloo is responsible for all the crazy VFX in it.

This has all the elements that makes a great comedy sketch:

1.  An antagonist that is unaware/unabashed of how much of a complete jerk they are.

2.  The purposeful decimation of a cherished childhood memory.

3.  Lastly, the most important part of any sketch like this is to have a great straight man, and this sketch has SEVEN!!!! (Well, technically four if you take into account the ladies and the gay guy, but I don't know the PC word for "Straight Man").

Wow!  When you break down and analyze what makes a sketch great, you sound really boring and unfunny.  BLOG FAIL!!!!

Seriously though, this is the greatest College Humor sketch of all time IMHO.

I created this video a couple of years back when I lived in Calgary.  We're working with Kids Cancer Care Foundation again now for their 2010 video.  Check back in March for the premiere of their newest video.
